After more than a few tense moments following a mechanical failure on Saturday, Phil Nedham and his Top Dragster, Mighty Mouse, which is jointly sponsored by Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) and Prostate Cancer Canada Network Brampton (PCCN Brampton), went on to have their best weekend ever.
In Phil's own words:
"A very special 'Thank You' to 2 guys who made our Sunday laps possible. We tore the blower belt up on Saturday afternoon and did not have a spare. I called my buddy Adam Hauke in Bowmanville to see if he had a spare. He said he didn't have a spare but he would pull the belt and pullies off his race car at 9 o'clock Saturday night for us. Another good friend, Matt Santoro from Whitby agreed to run the hardware out to the track for Sunday morning. He showed up at Cayuga at 7:50 this morning. Between the two us us, we thrashed the new parts on 7 minutes before the qualifier round call. We lit the car quickly and towed to the lanes for our first qualifier....What can I say?...Racing friends will do anything to help each other! Thanks again to the both of you!"
Congratulations to Phil and his Pit Crew, captained by our own Steve Hutton, assisted by his daughter Alexis Hutton and friends Trina and Eric Chruszcz.
Oh, yes: On his last run on Sunday, Mighty Mouse laid down a 6.87 second elapsed time at 195 M.P.H. On to Grand Bend Dragway for the Stratford Spectacular, August 7 to 9.
